Background

In September 2010, the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Head Start (OHS), awarded the National Center on Parent, Family and Community Engagement to the Brazelton Touchpoints Center Children’s Hospital Boston and 4 other organizational partners. The Center will identify and disseminate evidence-based best practices to Head Start programs nationally to promote parent, family and community engagement practices that are positively associated with children’s healthy development of and learning.   

Expectations and Opportunities

The Program Manager, Training and Technical Assistance will manage projects core to the mission and goals of the National Center for effective parent, family and community engagement.  The position will manage the delivery of all NCPFCE training, learning events and technical assistance products for the Head Start community.  This position will work collaboratively to ensure high quality delivery and dissemination of training and technical assistance products in line with the goals, needs and rich, diverse experience of the Head Start community.  This role will be responsible for ensuring the timely completion of projects and effective, efficient use of resources.

The ideal candidate will have experience in child development/early childhood education and family services, with extensive knowledge about working with children and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.  A deep understanding of the role of families in the development and learning of children is essential.  This position will require demonstrated experience in planning and leading projects to facilitate learning through training delivery and product development.  In-depth knowledge of adult learning principles is highly desirable.

The Program Manager, Training and Technical Assistance is an integral member of the Center team.  This position may entail periodic travel to national Head Start field offices and programs, national conferences and training events.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning, development and execution of professional development strategy, including the creation and delivery of content and services to enhance and promote effective family engagement practices.
  • Plan and implement the delivery of training and learning events that include follow-up technical assistance to help Head Start staff, T& TA providers and other early childhood educators apply the knowledge to practice.  Training will include on-site and online offerings.
  • Manage projects to design and deliver multi-media learning products to promote and advance learning with and from the Head Start community and early childhood education field.  Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Manage the collection, compilation and analysis of data about participants’ knowledge, attitudes and practices before and after training experiences (surveys, evaluations, pre/post assessments).   Use this data for continuous improvement and training/materials development.
  • Liaise cross-functionally with colleagues at NCPFCE to maintain consistency and alignment with NCPFCE overall content, philosophy, and research and evaluation supporting training content.
  • Represent the National Center and present information at national conferences and forums.
  • Participate in the selection, hiring and managing of a team of trainers, content experts, writers, copy editors, graphic designers, and e-learning/technology-based consultants.

 Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of project management experience, facilitating adult learning (including the development of professional development programs), or providing training and technical assistance. 
  • Knowledge and experience with early education programs and systems, especially Head Start.
  • Previous experience in managing cross functional teams, individual and teams of consultants and other stakeholders.  
  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills for our intended audiences.
  • Ability to travel periodically (nationwide)
  • Excellent computer systems skills; knowledge of and interest in new media/Web 2.0
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary for engaging with a wide array of stakeholders, via telephone and other media and in person
