Beyond Trauma-Informed Care: A Developmental and Relational Framework for Healing

This workshop series explores strengths-based foundational concepts and actionable strategies related to trauma, adaptation, healing, and resilience. Family- and child-facing providers learn about a developmental-relational framework that will deepen their understanding of the individual and systemic impacts of trauma. Participants learn to understand and respond with empathy to behavior displayed by children and adults who have experienced trauma while building safe and trusting relationships. Key concepts and strategies from the Touchpoints Developmental and Relational Frameworks are woven throughout the series.

This series is for all professionals interested in supporting children and families who have experienced trauma. Professionals may include early care educators, family child care providers, mental health consultants, home visitors, pediatric primary care providers, early interventionists, and more.

Workshop 1
Trauma & Healing When Working with Adults & Children: The Developmental-Relational Perspective

What do we mean when we say that someone has experienced trauma, or that trauma has affected adult or child development? Individuals experience stressful or traumatic events differently. Stress can occur on a continuum from healthy to toxic varieties. In this workshop, you will learn about the impact of toxic stress and traumatic events on the interactions between and among adult family members, children, and providers.

Workshop 2
Applying a Developmental-Relational Framework to Building Children’s Early Emotional Health

How do children cope with traumatic experiences? A traumatic response might appear in the way children behave with their peers or as they transition from one activity to another. Professionals who work with children can learn to recognize and be sensitive to the various ways that children respond to trauma. These might include behavioral challenges, or sadness and withdrawal. In this workshop, you will learn how to partner with families and caregivers to support children’s healing and the building of resilience.

Workshop 3
Applying a Developmental-Relational Framework in Working with Adults Who’ve Experienced Trauma

How do adults cope with traumatic experiences? When someone experiences a traumatic event, it might influence them immediately, or the impacts of the event might appear later in life. Professionals who work with families who have experienced trauma sometimes experience stress or relive their own traumatic histories while doing this work. In this webinar, you will learn about the ways that adults cope with trauma — both as it happens, and later in life — and strategies you can use to support healing and resilience when working with adults and caregivers dealing with current trauma or traumatic histories.
