Touchpoints in Libraries focuses on understanding a child’s developmental process from birth to 6 years, and connecting with families through strengths-based interactions. Library staff can apply knowledge and skills learned from this course to strengthen their interactions with families and inform programs and services.

Course Format:
This course consists of eight modules and is carried out with a small cohort of other library staff from around the country. Each module will take approximately 3.0 hours to complete (90-minute live session, 90-minute online work). Modules will be held from January 11 – March 1, 2022 (Tuesdays 2:00-3:30 PM ET).

Attendance is required at all live sessions. These modules are then followed by six monthly one-hour virtual reflective practice sessions. Captioning is available. Sessions are not recorded.

Professionals who work in library settings.

  • View children’s development as a non-linear process characterized by periods of change that affect the family system
  • Identify opportunities to connect with and support families in daily library interactions including moments that feel challenging for them and for you
  • Use strengths-based and culturally responsive strategies to connect with families and co-workers
  • Create a shared language among staff about engaging families and caregivers
